This is the X10 glass break detector model number GB10A for use with any X10 wireless security system base receiver or can be added to any X10 wireless security system. When a glass door or window is broken or even struck in an attempt to break it, the sensor sends an RF signal back to the security console setting off the alarm.

These sensors are first initialized into your security systems console just like any door window or security motion sensor so that they can be recognized. A random code is automatically generated during set-up, which uniquely identifies each sensor. The security console logs-in each of these random codes as the next zone in sequence (up to 16 zones). Each GB10A counts as one zone just like any other security sensor.

These are also self checking for proper operation. If a sensor does not report in, this could mean a weak or dead battery or that it has been tampered with. The security console will not arm if the glass break sensor hasn't reported in, but this can be overridden by pressing the console's BYPASS button. If the sensor then does report back in after the system is armed, it becomes capable of setting off the alarm.

One GB10A can generally provide enough protection for one room because the sensor can detect a loud noise or impact without actually being on the door or window that's being assaulted. When placed on a window, it becomes like a large "ear" that can pick up other loud noises in the surrounding area within about 20 feet of the sensor. The nice thing about these is that you can test them without having to actually break anything. Just hit the glass or even the wall to determine how sensitive it will be. The GB10A behaves much like a door/window sensor in that it can sound the alarm if the security system is armed in HOME or AWAY modes. If it's not armed and set in the RUN 2 mode, the console sounds a pleasant chime each time a protected door or window is struck letting you know something is going on. Also, the zone indicator on the console will light up.
